The women's handball club OTP Group Budućnost has informed the public that it will not play in the newly formed regional competition next season.
The statement highlights:
"Budučnost strongly supports the idea of forming a Regional League, as an important step towards strengthening women's handball in the region and a greater number of quality matches.
"However, after a detailed analysis, the club has made the decision not to participate in the proposed format in the 2026/27 season, bearing in mind that the competitive and financial framework are insufficiently defined, as well as the obligations that await us in the Champions League at the beginning of the season," the Podgorica club states.
Adding:
"OTP Group Budućnost remains open to future involvement in this project, with additional refinement and stable positioning, with the belief that the Regional League can bring significant value to all participants.
We believe that strengthening and including clubs from multiple backgrounds is crucial for the development of women's handball in Montenegro, and in this sense, we encourage the development of handball centers throughout the country.
As a club, we are available to these communities and clubs to support their development, both in terms of players and coaching staff, to the extent necessary and possible.
We believe in the idea that brings people together, but we believe even more in responsibility towards the people we lead. That's why we make every decision so that we can look each other in the eye tomorrow."
