When Montenegrin women's handball players appear in one of the five countries organizing the European Championship in December, it will be the ninth continental championship in which our national team will participate.
It will be the 20th major competition for the "lionesses" since the restoration of independence, but unlike the previous more than 10 tournaments, this time they will not have Itana Grbić and Ivona Pavicevic with them.
The two of them officially said goodbye to the red jersey today, and their former teammates decided to give them a sure victory as a final gift - Montenegro held off the Faroe Islands (31:26) and qualified for the EHF Euro in grand style.
After emotions and tears at the start of the match, Suzana Lazović's team quickly "solved" their rivals.
Captain Đurđina Jauković hit five of her first five shots, so the scoreboard in the "Bemax Arena" showed 14:7.
There were many attractive moves in those moments, along with Đina, Dijana Mugoša, Matea Pletikosić and Nikolina Marković were in the lead, and after Jauković's and Mugoša's zeppelins, the "lionesses" went into the break with a huge 22:14.
Montenegro slowed down a bit in the second half, Suzana Lazović gave opportunities to practically all the players, young goalkeeper Teodora Rončević had great moments, but the guests took advantage of everything, and returned to the Faroe Islands with a more bearable defeat.
The European Championship will be held in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey.
