The Montenegrin women's handball team will be in pot two at the draw for the EHF Euro 2026, which will take place on Thursday in Katowice, Poland. The other pot includes Spain, Germany, Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic.
Following the completion of the qualifications, the European Handball Federation announced the procedure for the draw, which will be held on Thursday at 18 p.m.
24 national teams have qualified for the European Championship. The teams will be divided into six groups of four in the preliminary phase of the competition, and the championship will be held from December 3rd to 20th.
The medal winners from the previous championship - Norway and Hungary - are in the first pot, along with France and the Netherlands.
The championship hosts - Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey - are placed in the second and third pots.
The Greek national team, which is in the fourth pot, has qualified for the European Championship for the first time in its history.
The teams are placed in pots based on their qualifying results, as well as their final placement at the 2024 European Championship.
Hats for the draw:
Hat 1: Norway, Hungary, France, Sweden and the Netherlands.
Hat 2: Germany, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Hat 3: Turkey, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria and the Faroe Islands.
Hat 4: Croatia, Serbia, Iceland, North Macedonia, Ukraine and Greece.
The preliminary phase of the competition will be played in six cities, and certain national teams have already been assigned to groups in advance:
Hungary in Group A (Oradea, Romania)
Romania and Group B (Cluj-Napoca)
Turkey in Group C (Antalya)
Czech Republic in Group D (Brno)
Poland in Group E (Katowice)
Slovakia in Group F (Bratislava)
The top two teams from each group will advance to the main round, which will be played in Cluj-Napoca (groups A, B and C) and Katowice (groups D, E and F).
The final weekend of the championship will be held at the "Spodek" hall in Katowice, where the semi-finals are scheduled for the 18th, and the final and the match for third place for the 20th of December.
