Students from the "Vlado Milić" school attended a handball match at the "Mtel Morača Hall", in the company of Olympic champions from their school.
Children from the "Vlado Milić" elementary school in Donja Gorica watched the World Handball Championship play-off match between Montenegro and Slovenia live at the Morača Sports Center last night. The children's trip to the match was organized by the president of the Montenegrin Olympians Club, Ljiljana Vučević, and her sister Svetlana Antić, both Olympic handball champions from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, as a gesture of gratitude towards their former physical education teacher, Aco Marković, who is now retired.
The school provided transportation, and the children were accompanied by four teachers. The students were welcomed at the gym by Ljiljana and Svetlana, who did for them what their teacher once did for them: introduced them to the world of handball.
What gives this moment special weight is the fact that both Ljiljana and Svetlana, born Mugoša, grew up in Donja Gorica, that they attended the same school "Vlado Milić" and that they were guided to handball by Aco Marković, a then young physical education teacher who recognized their talent. From the classrooms of that school, the Mugoša sisters embarked on a path that led them to ŽRK Budućnost, the Yugoslav national team, and to Olympic gold.
More than four decades after teacher Marković sent them to the handball court, the Mugoša sisters stood last night in "Morača" next to the children from their school and watched a new generation of potential Montenegrin handball players.
The Montenegrin Olympians Club recognizes at this moment what is the essence of Olympic heritage: a story that is passed on, an inspiration that never gets old, and a connection between generations that makes sport something more than just a result, because last night in "Morača", in addition to the game, the moment was also marked in which a story, begun four decades ago in the classrooms of Donja Gorica, returned to where it started.
