After 120 minutes of handball against Slovenia, the only thing the Montenegrin handball players can regret is that they did not have an easier opponent in the World Championship play-offs.
The "Lions" fought heroically against one of the world's strongest teams, threatening to perhaps turn the two-match series around, but in the end, Uroš Zorman's team was calmer in the finish and travels to Germany.
- We have made a lot of progress, we have much more stability in the game, but now we have to congratulate the great Slovenian team - said Montenegrin coach Didije Dinar.
The French legend is proud of his chosen ones.
- The players fought, they gave their all and we always came back from a deficit. In these two matches, details and certain lost balls were decisive. It's difficult to analyze everything that way - added Dinar and continued in the same rhythm:
- We left our hearts and all our strength on the field, we fought until the very end, and all that remains is to congratulate the players.
He also said something about Slovenia.
"We faced a team that has a habit of playing big matches and big championships, such as the semi-finals of the Olympic Games," Dinar emphasized.
Branko Vujović led the "lions" as captain in the qualifiers and the play-offs, and the matches with Slovenia showed that his teammates and he have something to hope for in the future.
- This is the basis of how the national team should be approached, not only in this match but also in friendlies. I am pleased with what we have shown, and these are primarily character and fight, which was not lacking at any moment - says Vujović.
It seems that the "Lions" deserved more this time.
- Deserved or not, in the end it all comes down to who advances, and that's Slovenia. I think both they and we deserved to go to the World Cup, but this time luck was on their side - added our right-back.
Aleksandar Bakić, together with Nikola Matović, brought additional energy to the Montenegrin team in the second half.
- We can be proud, we gave our last atom of strength and tried to look better in the second half. I congratulate Slovenia on qualifying for the World Cup, but I think we deserved to go there too - Bakić emphasized.
Our left wing believes in the future of the "lions".
- We showed character and heart and this is an overture to the new qualifications that await us. We need to approach every match like this and I believe that better times are coming for our handball - concluded Bakić.
