The handball team of ĆSM Bucharest won third place in the Champions League, after defeating Brest 32:26 in the bronze medal match at the final tournament in Budapest.
ĆSM was previously defeated by Metz 32:27 in the semifinals. The Romanian team won the bronze medal in the Champions League for the third time in its history. It previously finished last on the podium in 2017 and 2018, while it won the title in 2016.
The team, which features Đurđina Jauković and Tatjana Brnović, and is led from the bench by Bojana Popović, has only been behind once, at the start, when it was 1:0 to Brest. ĆSM scored three goals in a row (3:1), and had a four-goal advantage during the first half (13:9).
At the beginning of the second half, Brest came close to a goal behind (15:14 and 16:15), and then Brest first went to a plus three (18:16), and then to a four-goal lead (21:17).
The French team had its last chance when they came within two goals of a deficit (23:21). This was followed by a series of goals by ĆSM, who scored four goals in a row, and for the first time had a six-goal lead (27:21), so there was no more dilemma.
The Romanian team's top scorer was Elizabet Omoregi with eight goals. Tatjana Brnović had five, while Đurđina Jauković scored twice. Jauković received a red card in the second half.
For Brest, the best was Klaris Mairo with 11 goals.
