The Final Four of the Champions League for handball players never disappoints. After Fuchs Berlin's big win over Magdeburg (40:35), the handball players from Barcelona and Aalborg also gave us a spectacle.
In the end, after overtime, the Catalan giant won, 37:32.
For almost the entire match, Barcelona's advantage ranged between two and four goals. However, the "blaugrana" stopped at the very end. After scoring for 27:24 with eight and a half minutes left in the match, Barça scored only one goal. The Danish club took advantage of this and managed to take the match to extra time with a 4:1 series.
However, this is where Barcelona's experience and quality came to the fore. The Spanish giants also had the incredible Emil Nilsen in goal, who was most responsible for the Catalans' victory with 18 saves.
By the end of the first overtime, Barça already had a three-goal advantage (33:30), and in the end they made the victory convincing.
The Catalans will be chasing their 13th European title tomorrow at 18pm at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. With 12 trophies in the elite competition, Barcelona is the convincing record holder behind second-placed Gummersbach and Magdeburg, who each have five European crowns in their treasury.
Nilsen was by far the best individual on the winning team, while Aleš Gomes led the scoring with eight goals.
On the other hand, Aleksander Blonz and Thomas Arnoldsen were accurate five times each.
