Nothing new happened compared to previous seasons - the Buducnost women's handball team started their new challenges in the Champions League with a defeat.
The two-time European champion had to congratulate Ferencvaros, who defeated "Morača" by a margin of nine points (29:20).
Some reactions and good action were not enough for the favorites. However, they could also be a hope that Zoran Abramović's team will grow as the season progresses and when the expert from Cetinje can also count on Jelena Radivojević, Jelena Vukčević, Suna Larsen and Ivona Pavićević.
The match in which Itana Grbić and her teammates refused to give up several times, but also allowed their rival to routinely celebrate with too many rookie mistakes, will be remembered most for Ivana Savić, who showed what kind of talent she is on her debut in the elite.
The away team's 3:0 lead, then a red card for Ivana Godeč and many mistakes from the first minute seemed to be an announcement of the direction the new season premiere in "Morača" would take.
Itana Grbić and Đurđina Jauković tried to get the team going in attack, Abramović often made substitutions for the same reason in order to find the best play for his team, but apart from a few good actions by the "blue and whites", the small audience in our largest hall could see little.
So, FTC, led by Emily Vogel and Angela Malestajn, quickly went to 10:4, then 12:5, and when Buducnost was finally able to make a mini series and reduce the lead to 12:8, new mistakes followed, and Abramović's girls often passed the ball practically into the hands of their rivals.
By the break, Jovana Skrobić started scoring in attack, Ivana Savić was not impressed by the EHF elite, and the great goalkeeper Armel Atingre ensured that the Hungarian team did not have an even bigger advantage before the break (15:9).
The Podgorica team opened the second half better, quickly reducing the deficit to minus four (15:11) through Đurđina Juković and Nađa Kadović, but the sending off of the Montenegro captain and excellent goalkeeper Ana Kristensen pushed FTC into another breakout (19:13).
With goals from Ivana Savić and Đurđina Jauković, the "blue and white" had their last push with about ten minutes to go (22:17), after which Ferencvroš escaped once again, and Abramović gave the other younger players a chance.
Gifts for the world vice-champions
The introduction to the premiere of the new Champions League season was an opportunity for Buducnost to greet the Montenegrin cadet team, which became the world vice-champion this summer.
Legendary coach and president of the club's Assembly, Nikola Petrović, presented special gifts to Sofija Delević, Ivana Savić, Masa Ulićević, Nejla Hodžić (who play for the Podgorica team), as well as Masa Dubljević, Vasilisa Savić, Anđela Jovanović and Nina Gajević (members of Trebjesa). Coach Miloš Perović also received a gift.
