A season in which a step forward was expected after just two rounds of the Champions League brought major cuts - the Women's Handball Club Budućnost changed its coach and director in one day.
The two-time European champion dismissed Zoran Abramović from the position of head of the coaching staff, and appointed club and Montenegrin handball legend Maja Savić in his place.
At the same time, Goran Cmiljanić resigned from the position of director, and as announced by the club, the Board of Directors appointed Srđan Markoč, the previous club secretary, as the new director.
Abramović arrived at Buducnost in September last year, also after several opening rounds in the EHF elite when he succeeded Bojana Popović - he led the team during the previous and at the beginning of the current season.
"The decision to change the bench was made after the first two rounds of the Champions League group stage, in which OTP Group Buducnost was defeated by Ferencvaros in Podgorica and ĆSM in Bucharest," Buducnost said after matches in which the Hungarian and Romanian clubs were big favorites.
Maja Savić has been a part of Buducnost since 1990, wearing the jersey of the Podgorica giants until 2004, and then returned for the 2011/12 season, when she ended her great career with the Champions League trophy. With the Montenegrin national team, she won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
She has been on the coaching staff of Buducnost for a long time, and was also an assistant to Bojana Popovic.
"Her experience, authority, knowledge of the club and European handball, as well as years of work with the players, will be an important part of the new period for the first team. She will make her debut on the Buducnost bench on Sunday, when the 'blues' welcome the French Brest in the 3rd round of the elite competition," added Buducnost.
The new director is also very familiar with the opportunities at the club, as he has been a part of Buducnost for a long time.
"Throughout his previous work at the club, Markoč has been involved in organizational and administrative processes, and he is taking on a new position with the aim of continuing the stable and responsible work of the club, with a clear commitment to sporting ambitions, player development and preserving OTP Group Buducnost's position on the European handball scene," concluded Buducnost.
