With a successful performance at the qualifying tournament in Slovakia and qualifying for the European Championship, the junior national team took a big step towards the handball future, said captain Tatjana Brnović.
Montenegrin handball players, as the second-placed in the group, with two triumphs and a defeat, qualified for the championship.
They defeated Belgium (22:13) and Slovakia 21:17, and their only defeat was against France 25:24.
Brnović said that placing at the EP in Slovenia, from July 27 to August 6, means a lot to them.
"We believed in the placement, if we didn't, we wouldn't have achieved our goal. It's a step towards our handball future. We're satisfied, as hard as it was, we enjoyed it as much, supporting each other on and off the field. It's a great experience for us Brnović said.
According to Enisa Đoković, the national team's goal before the tournament was to show what it knows and give the maximum at the tournament.
"The tournament in Slovakia was a great experience for us. Our goal was to show what we know at the tournament. We knew we had a tough job ahead of us, serious rivals, but we did it well. We believed in ourselves and gave our best," she said. Djokovic.
She said that Montenegro has quality and will confirm it at the European Championship.
The coach of the national team, Tatjana Jeraminok, said that she was happy that the junior girls had the opportunity to compete with their generation.
"It's an opportunity for us to see where we are compared to the others. Our main goal is to create players for the senior national team and ŽRK Budućnost," Jeraminok said.
She said that the most difficult part was during the preparations, recalling numerous bad luck and problems with injuries.
"For half a year, Ivana Novaković and Lejla Bošnjak, who were the holders in their positions, have not been in the training process. We hoped that they would be ready, but they did not manage to fully recover or get in shape. There were other injuries, which were not were difficult, but they happened at an inconvenient moment," Jeraminok said.
She pointed out that the tournament was not difficult despite the quality rivals, stating that the girls knew how to deal with the pressure.
"The girls realized that if they can handle France, then they can handle anyone in their generation. That's one of the biggest gains of qualifying," Jeraminok said.
She said that the result in Mihalovci is not only the merit of the players and the coaching staff, but of everyone who contributed to the team's better preparation and readiness for the qualification tournament.
Selector Dragan Adžić said that it is extremely important for Montenegrin handball that younger handball selections participate in the championships.
"It is important that they go to competitions, because only they create competitors. The biggest impression of the championship is that the girls showed maturity. Jeraminik reduced the pressure, but someone who plays for Montenegro in women's handball has to face it because everyone's expectations big. The way they played the tournament inspires faith and hope in them," said Adžić.
