Several South Korean female athletes have accused their coaches of sexual abuse, after two-time Olympic figure skating champion Shim Suk-hee said her coach raped her.
The group "Solidarity for young female skaters" held a press conference in the South Korean parliament today, and on that occasion it was announced that five other female skaters made the same accusations, but did not reveal their names.
South Korean lawmaker Son Hye-won said at that conference that one of the alleged victims stated that she was repeatedly abused by a coach while she was training at the National Sports University as a teenager.
She also requested an investigation against the former coach of the national team Jeon Myeng-gyu, but also called on the president and other leaders of the Olympic Committee to resign because, as she stated, they failed to protect the athletes.
In addition to skaters, female athletes who practice judo, wrestling and taekwondo accused their coaches of sexual abuse, and the same accusations were made by the Olympic vice-champions in curling.
