The organizers of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris announced on Thursday that they have chosen Tahiti, the largest island of French Polynesia, for the surfing competitions.
So surfers should fight for medals in the town of Teahupo, in the southwest of Tahiti, which is their favorite destination because of the big and spectacular waves. Tahiti is 15.714 kilometers from Paris, that is, a 23-hour flight.
The decision of the organizers of the Paris Games still needs to be confirmed by the IOC at its meeting on January 8.
Another four places on the Atlantic coast of France were in competition to host (Biarric, Lacanp, Cabreton and La Torche). Of those four places, the most famous surfing destinations are La Torš and Lakano.
Surfing is joining the family of Olympic sports next year at the Tokyo Olympics.
