Today, the women's karate team of the Montenegrin national team and its member Jelena Maksimović won the gold medal at the senior championship of the Balkans in Belgrade.
The success of Montenegrin karate was completed with silver medals by the men's team in fighting and both teams in kata.
In the final match of the category up to 55 kilograms, Maksimović defeated Croatia's Ines Grdenić 2:0. On the way to the final, the member of Omladinc eliminated Jana Kojčić from Serbia 2:0, Bojana Janković from Serbia 3:1 and Iman Begić from Bosnia and Herzegovina 4:1.
"I am satisfied with the result, but also with the way I performed the championship. I came, first of all, to check how far I have come with my preparations, so that I can meet the European Championship in Baku even more prepared. I saw what I still need to work on and what I need to I had seven matches and I achieved maximum performance", said Maksimović.
Saša Bojović was also one step away from a medal in that category, but she lost the match for third place to Vera Dukić 3:2.
The women's wrestling team, consisting of Jelena Maksimović, Ksenija Rajović, Marina Raković and Dragana Konjević, beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2:1 in the final.
On the way to the final, the Montenegrin team eliminated Slovenia 2:0 and Serbia 2:0.
The men's team, represented by Almir Cecunjanin, Bojan Bošković, Nemanja Brašanac, Andrija Fatić, Balša Miličković, Ilija Radonjić and Predrag Smolović, was defeated by Croatia 3:1 in the final. In the first round, they defeated Slovenia 3:1, while they won the fight for the gold medal with a victory against Serbia 3:1.
Selector Slobodan Vlahović said that he must be satisfied with the attitude of the national team members towards the coat of arms and the national team.
"We didn't do as well as we expected on the first day of the competition, and as a result, not everything was as it should be, but we are certainly proud of the attitude and karate that we showed. The boys and girls showed that they have quality and that at the EP we have something to be proud of and that we could let's hope for new medals", Vlahović said.
The women's kata team, represented by Jovana Marić, Mia Roganović and Iva Popović, won silver with 24,64 points, behind Serbia with 24,8 points.
The men's team, consisting of Vladimir Mijač, Kenan Nikočević and Arijan Kočan, lost to Serbia in the final.
Montenegrin karate players finished the championship with nine medals, three gold, silver and bronze.
The gold medal was won yesterday by Biserka Radulović in the kata, while the bronze medalists Mijat Vojvodić and Vladimir Mijač and Ksenija Miličković won in the fights.
Janko Dževerdanović (up to 67), Stefan Gojčević (up to 75), Lazar Kukuličić (up to 84), Andrija Fatić (up to 84), Almir Cecunjanin (over 84), Vasilisa Bujić (over 68) and Kataš Filip Bakić, but they lost the matches for the bronze medal and ended up in fifth place.
