Canceled European Championship in Baku

The European Karate Federation canceled the European Championship, which was supposed to be held in the capital of Azerbaijan from March 25 to 29.

EKF canceled the Old Continent Championship due to the threat to public health of the Covid-19 virus. The decision to cancel the championship is in line with the decisions of the government of Azerbaijan to take extraordinary measures to fight the coronavirus epidemic.

Among these measures, restrictions are now being applied to international travelers arriving in the country, a two-week quarantine is being introduced for newcomers to the country, and electronic visas issued have been abolished, while hotel reservations have been cancelled.

After the decision of the Executive Board of the World Karate Federation - WKF, the cancellation of the European Senior Championship 2020 implies that the Olympic rating remains unchanged. The Senior Championship of 2019, which was held in Guadalajara, Spain, will be the last European championship included in the Olympic rating.

Therefore, the EKF European Championship will certainly not be organized before the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
