Athletes from 1 countries have registered to participate in the international Podgorica Marathon, which will be held on November 11, the Directorate of the Podgorica event announced.
The Podgorica Marathon will be held for the 27th time this year, and due to the complex epidemiological situation in the capital city caused by the coronavirus pandemic, marathoners will not traditionally run through Golubovce, Mataguže and Tuzi, with the start and finish at Independence Square in Podgorica.
The entire event will be held on the boulevard of Crnogorski Serdar on the kilometer-long circular track, where the 50-kilometer Ultramarathon Montenegro is traditionally held every year.
The organization of the event is intended to hold five and ten kilometer races, a half marathon (21 km) and a 42.195 meter marathon, as well as the national championship of Montenegro in road-road races in the categories of juniors and seniors.
"The epidemiological situation required a different approach to the organization of the marathon. We were forced to change the route and organize it on a circular track. Because of the national competitions, the association wanted to organize a marathon and with that competition completely fill the competition calendar for this year," said the president of the Athletics Association Gojko Banjević.
The participation of competitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, the Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Moldova, France, Romania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro has been announced.
The promoter of the event will be Slađana Pejović. "I am honored to be the promoter of this year's marathon. My goal is to win first place and be the champion of Montenegro, which would mean a lot to me in the fight for a place at the Olympic Games," said Pejović.
