At the World Championship in Cortina D'Ampezzo, he was fifth after the super-giant slalom, and he won his first gold medal in a time of two minutes, five seconds and 86 hundredths of a second.
Two years ago in Ore, Schwartz was bronze in the combined, and in Cortina he won his fourth medal at the world championships.
He was four hundredths of a second faster than the gold medalist from Ore, Frenchman Alexis Pinturo.
The Swiss Loik Millar finished in third place, 12 hundredths of a second behind and won the first world medal.
Leading after the super-giant slalom, James Crawford was fourth, German Simon Joschner was fifth, and French Victor Moufa-Jande was sixth.
The ski competition at the World Championship will continue tomorrow with the parallel slalom.
