Marija Vuković was a prodigy, world junior champion, and now she finally fulfilled one of the biggest goals in her career - she qualified for the Olympic Games.
She jumped 197 centimeters at the Balkan Championship, the highest in her career, meeting the standard for Tokyo...
Emotions were strong, tears flowed, dreams came true...
"I feel wonderful. I am very happy and grateful. Now I want the passions to calm down a bit, and then prepare for Tokyo as best I can. The goal is to present Montenegro in the best way at the Games," said 29-year-old Marija for "Sportfem".
She performed the Olympic jump at the last competition, in the last jump...
"I was ready and knew I could do it. The moment was just waiting. I believed and finally the enormous work and effort paid off".
Five years ago, the jump over 197 centimeters brought the gold medal to the Spaniard Rut Beitija. Marija is not bothered by the award, but...
"It is difficult to talk about the medal. However, on the other hand, nothing is impossible. Strong competition awaits me in Tokyo. First of all, I am grateful for the great success and the people who have always been by my side, as well as my team. I will do my best, and the result will be God's will", concluded the former junior world champion.
Marija also became the first Montenegrin athlete in history to achieve the A Olympic standard.
The Games in Tokyo will be held from July 23 to August 8.
