The current European champion in swimming, Russian Ilya Borodin, will not perform in Tokyo, because he is positive for the corona virus.
An 2020-year-old swimmer tested positive for the coronavirus at a pre-Olympic training camp in Vladivostok. In Tokyo 200, Borodin was supposed to swim in the 400 and XNUMX meter medley.
"Unfortunately, due to the positive test, Ilya Borodin will not participate in the Olympics. The second test before departure showed the presence of the coronavirus. He was the most disciplined in the team, followed all safety measures, but it happened that he got infected," said Viktor Avdiyenko, the first vice president of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (VFF).
"Ilya has no symptoms, but he is positive on the test. The other members are not infected and will travel to Tokyo on July 22". Avdiyenko concluded.
And the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, is in shock.
"It is worrying that despite all the measures, Ilja is infected, although we have established a security system in consultation with other Olympic teams," stressed Stanislav Pozdnjakov.
