Already in the second round of the Olympic tournament, Montenegrin handball players have a chance to achieve their first goal - to reach the quarterfinals.
At two past midnight, our time, they play against the hosts Japan - all the forecasts are like that, and the results of the first matches showed it, that Angola and Japan are the weakest teams in the group.
Montenegro was convincing against Angola at the start, the Dutch against Japan...
"Mathematically, it's a quarter-final match, but this is the Olympics, anything can happen. I am sure that the match will be difficult, against another lesser-known rival, but if we respect everything we agreed upon, I believe we can win", says Andrea Klikovac.
The day off in the competition, the "lionesses" spent in tactical and psychological preparations for a duel with another outsider, but maximally motivated rival, with an unusual style of play.
Defense is the answer to the speed and penetration of the opponent...
"We beat every rival with a good defense, and we have to be patient in the positional attack. That is the key”.
Since London and the semi-final with Spain, Montenegro has been waiting for an Olympic victory, the episode in Rio ended with five defeats...
"The victory meant a lot to us, even so convincing, we gained confidence, we entered the tournament in the best way", concluded Klikovac.
