Athlete Marija Vuković shone at the Olympic Games.
In the fierce competition in the high jump in Tokyo, it was enough for ninth place.
But it was enough to unite Montenegro, and tonight in Cetinje it was welcomed as it should be.
"Thank you to everyone for your support, thank you for coming, for recognizing my result and for giving me the strength to be even better. I am proud to see Cetinje radiating with enthusiasm and I am glad that athletics did it," said Marija with applause on Dvorski trg and added:
"Many commented on how I changed cities and countries, but it was all because of the conditions. I was forced to leave my family and friends, I certainly would not have left my city if I had the conditions here. However, I was never ashamed to I say that I started in the classroom of Elementary School "Njegoš" with Ivo Popović, jumping over desks. It would have been easier if I had stayed, but I endured that extra burden, looked for myself and never lost faith. Now that this has happened, I am proud of the family that supported me supported, even though we know very well how much we were together in the past 10 years," said Marija Vuković.
Ljubomir Radanović, former soccer player and bronze medalist with Yugoslavia at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, also addressed the crowd.
"I know what it feels like to be at the Olympic Games. We won a medal then, but this result of Marija Vuković in athletics, if we know the conditions in which she works, is worthy of a gold medal," said Radanović.
The legendary water polo player Veljko Uskoković, bronze medalist from Sydney 2000, also spoke with a video message.
