Estonian Rein Taramae (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert) is the winner of the third stage of the race across Spain from Santo Domingo de Silos to the summit of Picon Blanc (202,8 km) which was run on Monday with a time of 5 hours 16 minutes and 57 seconds and a new is the leader in the overall ranking.
American Jp Dombrovski (UAE Team Emirates) crossed the finish line second, 21 seconds behind, and Frenchman Kenny Elisonde (Trek - Segafredo) came third, 36 seconds behind.
The third stage that the cyclists rode today went from Santo Domin de Silos to the top of Picon Blanc (202,8 km) and is the second longest stage of this year's race in Spain, followed by a very demanding climb of 7,6 km with an average gradient of 9,3 percent.
For the 34-year-old Taramae (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert), this is the 19th victory in his career.
The Slovenian Primož Roglič, who before this stage was the leader in the overall standings, fell to third place. Before Monday, the Estonian was 1:28 minutes behind Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) in the overall standings, but after today's victory he took the leading position because the Slovenian cyclist crossed the finish line in seventh place, 1:48 minutes behind Tarama.
In the overall standings, Taramae is first with a 25-second advantage over Elisonde, and Roglič is third, 30 seconds behind.
On Tuesday, the 163,9 km long stage from El Burgo de Osma to Molina de Aragon is scheduled.
