The organizing committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has confirmed the project for an unprecedented opening ceremony, which for the first time will not be held in a stadium but on the River Seine, in the very center of the city.
The organizers have foreseen that the solemn ceremony will be held so that the delegations board about 200 boats, which will sail along the Seine in a length of about six kilometers, in the very heart of Paris.
The end of the ceremony is expected at Trocadero Square, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
The organizers announce about 600.000 spectators, who will be arranged along the Seine on the assembly stands and will have to pay a ticket, while spectators at the Trocadero will have free access to the ceremony.
Given the high risk of a terrorist attack, the French authorities responsible for security would like to limit the number of spectators to 250.000 people, while the organizers and the municipality of Paris aim for a performance open to as many as two million spectators.
