Marija Vuković was the Montenegrin sports princess 11 years ago, and today she became the queen - she received the award for the best sportswoman of Montenegro in 2021.
She will be remembered for her participation and great performance at the Olympic Games, her placement in the high jump final, where she had the fourth result (196 centimeters), and due to the greater number of attempts, she took ninth place.
"This is a great award for everyone, it is a huge honor to be the best athlete of my country. With this, in a way, I managed to justify the expectations that followed me all these years," said Marija after the announcement.
The award was presented to her at a ceremony in Villa Gorica.
"It's a wonderful feeling, and I think this is also a new beginning," she said.
Marija Vuković was the junior world champion in 2010, her new historic flight was long awaited.
"Now I'm more aware as a person, 11 years ago I was a world champion, and I didn't know what I was capable of, I didn't even know what a high jump was," said Marija.
"I struggled, there were ups and downs. Now I have shown myself and everyone that I can do it".
"Thanks to Dušan Simonović, who always believed in me, who supported me, even though I didn't participate in the Olympic Games until Tokyo. I'm glad that waiting and expectations paid off," she stressed.
He welcomes the next season with many motives.
"My goal and desire is to jump two meters by the end of my career. I'm working on it, everything is going as it should, I hope that result will come soon", concluded Marija Vuković, with another goal - to perform at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
In addition to Marija, the candidates for this award were Jovanka Radičević, Jelena Maksimović, Vojin Ćaćić, Miroslav Vujović, Jovica Marković and Stefan Vukotić.
