Novak Djokovic is one of the six candidates for the title of the best athlete in the world, which is awarded by the Laureus organization.
The lists in all categories were published today, and in addition to Djokovic, Tom Brady (American football), Caleb Dressel (swimming), Eliud Kipchoge (athletics), Robert Lewandowski (soccer) and Max Verstappen (Formula 1) are competing.
Djokovic was the best athlete in the world four times, and the winner of the award in 2021 is Rafael Nadal.
Ashley Barty (tennis), Alison Felix (athletics), Kathy Ledecky (swimming), Emma McKeon (swimming), Alexia Putellas (soccer) and Elaine Thompson Hera (athletics) are in the competition for the best female athlete in the world.
The football teams of Argentina and Italy, the women's football club of Barcelona, the Chinese diving team, Mercedes F1 and the Milwaukee Bucks were nominated for the best team.
