The hockey team of Finland won the gold medal today at the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, after defeating defending champion Russia 2:1 in the final, on the last day of the competition. The winning goal was scored by Hanes Bjorninen at the beginning of the third period. Vile Poka was also the scorer in the Finnish team, while Mihail Grigorenko scored the only goal in the Russian selection, giving the Russians the lead. Finland thus won the first Olympic gold medal in ice hockey, and the previous best results were silver medals in 1988 in Calgary and 2006 in Turin.
Finland finished the Olympic tournament with all seven victories. The Russian team did not feature players from the NHL this year, as well as in PyeongChang in 2018, when they won gold with a victory against Germany (4:3).
However, Fnac's style does not suit the "team", which lost the quarter-finals of the domestic ZOI in Sochi 3:1 in the strongest composition, and out of eight matches at the ZOI, the Finns won six with a goal difference of 28:14.
Finland celebrates Jukka Jalonen, who won the World Championship for Malda in 2016, three years ago as a selector and the World Championship and now the ZOI.
Bronze, the first medal in the history of hockey, was won by Slovakia yesterday.
