In Podgorica yesterday, in the film studio Dragutinović, the first taekball tournament in Montenegro was held.
It was announced that the first tournament was characterized by an original idea and a high level of organization, and that in a great atmosphere and with great interest in participation, the teams competed in singles and doubles, and the spectators, despite the fact that this sport only recently existed in Montenegro, had the opportunity to enjoy the skills and attractive moves of taekbol players.
The president of the Montenegrin tableball association, Milorad Šutulović, said that this is a new sport that is developing at a record speed on the global stage and has gained enormous popularity in a short time. In accordance with this world trend, the goal of the Taekbol Association is to raise the organizational level of sports competitions, offer something different and modern, so that visibility and interest in Taekball in Montenegro are at the desired level.
"In this, we had the full support of our partners the World Taekball Organization, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee of Montenegro, the Football Association of Montenegro, as well as IDEA," announced the Taekball Association of Montenegro.
The winner of the tournament in singles was Željko Janković, and the best in doubles were Marko Žarković and Andrija Jovanović, who will represent our country at the World Taekball Series in Paris in mid-March.
The tournament also had an exhibition part where the spectators could enjoy the great performance of a pair of taekball players, and a friendly match was played in mixed doubles, in which the U19 representatives of Montenegro in football - Sara Simonović and Nejla Bicić - performed. Also, younger categories of athletes are included in the tournament through various activations and games.
"We made a great effort to send a clear message from the first tournament that anyone who wants to will have the opportunity to play this sport and that we will take special care of the representation of competitors from the category of persons with disabilities, the inclusion of women in this sport as well as strengthening the base with our youngest table tennis players. I am convinced that we will have the full support of key institutions, the Administration for Sports and Youth and the Montenegrin Olympic Committee in the implementation of the aforementioned activities in the coming period."
The prize fund at the tournament was 1000 euros, and the Taekbol Federation of Montenegro provided the departure and participation of our national team members in the first international competition where the flag of our country will fly.
