Montenegrin high jump record holder Marija Vuković will also be a scholarship holder of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COK) in the next Olympic cycle.
The scholarship agreement was signed by Vuković, COK president Dušan Simonović and general secretary of the Athletics Federation Milan Madžgalj.
Vuković will receive a monthly scholarship of 1.400 dollars until the Olympic Games in Paris.
"I'm glad that we continued our cooperation, and I was happy in Tokyo that I justified the support and returned to the top. I'm glad that I continued in the same rhythm, I hope that by the time we get to Paris, we will achieve even better results and crown the cycle with a nice medal. Support means a lot to me, especially since President Dušan Simonović never gave up and was always by my side. I am glad that I justified that trust. I hope that I will justify it in the future and that there will be even better results", said Vuković.
She pointed out that her wishes and ambitions are great.
"I settled down at a height of 195 centimeters, it's a nice feeling. The goal is to cross the two-meter mark, and we'll see if it will be enough for a medal. Expectations from the World Cup were high. First of all, I myself expected more, because the season started as it should. It wasn't a medal, but fourth place is a serious result. I believe that it will be a step higher at some future competition," Vuković said.
Simonović, after signing the contract, said that COK continues with scholarships and support for Vuković and all athletes who are candidates for Paris.
He pointed out that the scholarships were previously provided through the Olympic solidarity of the International Olympic Committee.
"We are trying to start paying those scholarships as soon as possible. Vuković did not surprise us, we have had good cooperation with her for ten years. We sincerely believe that in the period ahead we will be pleased with a medal from one of the biggest competitions. She has established herself at great heights, I believe that one more step forward can be made there. I would like him to shine at the Olympics in Paris. It would be the crown of her career and our joint work," Simonović said.
"She gets the biggest scholarship, because she also has the best results in the individual competition. We will respect the other athletes with scholarships, we have eight Olympic candidates. Scholarships range from 600 to 1.400 dollars for athletes in individual sports," said Simonović.
According to him, COK will make an effort to provide scholarships in team sports in cooperation with the Handball and Water Polo Swimming Association.
Vuković reminded that COK was always by her side, supporting him even when things didn't go right.
