After four silvers and two bronzes, Montenegro finally won gold at the Mediterranean Games in Oran.
Marija Vuković arrived in Algeria as the absolute favorite in the high jump and justified her reputation. A height of 192 centimeters was enough for the new brightest award in her career, which was an easy task for her.
"This medal means a lot to me, it's a nice feeling. I expected it, I came to get it and I'm glad I succeeded, albeit in the second attempt. I am also glad for the Montenegrin Olympic Committee that the national anthem was sung in Algeria, this is a nice prelude to the World and European Championships," said the 30-year-old woman from Cetinje.
When it was known that she was the first, the best Montenegrin athlete tried to jump 196 centimeters, which would have been her best result of the season, one centimeter shorter than her personal record, but she failed
"Although I didn't say it before, I came for the gold, although I would have liked to have jumped 196, more for my head, to be more confident. I know I have that height. Maybe I wasn't concentrated enough, considering that Tatjana Gusin, with whom I train, jumped the best result of the season, and another girl took 3rd place in the 100 hurdles. I was also happy because of them, but I also knew that I had won the gold and maybe I didn't give my best".
Marija is expecting a new challenge already on July 16 and 17, when the qualifications and finals will be held at the World Championship in Eugene, in the American state of Oregon.
"In about 10 days I'm leaving for Oregon, I hope to achieve a better result there. I know that I can and God will grant that everything will be as it should be", concluded Vuković.
