Although there are still two years left until the Olympic Games in Paris, the chances of Russian athletes performing at them are already very low.
And they are not exclusively related to events in Ukraine, but also to the sports calendar.
This was said by a senior IOC official, Craig Reedy, former president of the World Anti-Doping Organization (WADA).
"The problem is that the qualifications for participation in the Games in many sports begin soon or have already begun. Sports federations follow the recommendations of the IOC, so at the moment Russian and Belarusian athletes are not in the competition. There is little chance that any athlete from Russia qualify for Paris, except maybe in three sports - judo, cycling and tennis, where they still compete. If, for example, the rules are changed in the meantime, it would not be fair to the other athletes, who have already qualified or are on the right track," Ridi said.
