Montenegrin karate representative Nikola Malović and the men's kata team, consisting of Vladimir Mijač, Kenan Nikočević and Arijan Kočan, will fight for bronze medals at the Serie A tournament in Athens on Sunday.
The member of Onogošt from Nikšić was free at the start of the competition in the category up to 84 kilograms, in the second round he defeated the Slovakian Enrik Smolig 2:0, in the third he eliminated Mahir Džuh from Bosnia and Herzegovina 2:1, while in the fourth he was better than the Ukrainian Devid Shatokhina 4:1.
In the match for the semi-finals, he was defeated by the Greek Konstantimos Mastroyanis 3:0, who, by qualifying for the final, sent him to a rematch. He won the fight for a medal by winning against Finn Ara Tuminen 4:1.
His opponent in Sunday's fight for third place will be the Macedonian Vitomir Trajkovski, who lost to Mastroyanis in the semi-finals.
Malović and Trajkovski, the vice-champion of the world in the junior senior competition, were also rivals in the final of the Balkan Championship, in which the Montenegrin karate player celebrated.
The Bar men's kata team finished second in the first round of the competition (36,8), while in the second they won third place (37,2) and won the medal match.
Their opponents for the medal will be the team of Italy, and the teams of Peru and Turkey, while the winner of the gold medal will be decided by Kuwait and Spain.
The victory at the start of the competition in the category over 68 kilograms was also won by Vasilisa Bujić against Zejna Gabalu from Turkey 4:0, while in the second she lost to the Canadian Lili Rose Noli 9:2.
At the start, her clubmate from the Bar team, Nemanja Jovović (over 84), was eliminated by the Croatian Jakov Bunjevac.
The Serie A tournament in Athens brought together around 1.100 competitors from 73 countries around the world.
