With 10 matches, he became the junior vice-champion of Europe, with 20 bronze medals in Sofia in the youth age group at the largest competition of the Old Continent, and the jubilee, 30th match in his career was on the biggest stage for the gold medal at the European Youth Boxing Championship in Yerevan - 18 -year-old Mirko Šarčević wrote the famous page of Montenegrin boxing with his victory, but certainly also the greatest success in individual sports for Bijelo Polje.
And his city knew how to celebrate success, as the packed hall of the Cultural Center gave an incredible welcome to the boxer from Bijelo Polje, with standing ovations for his coach Mugoša Kovačević.
With four impressive victories, Šarčević surpassed all his rivals for the gold in the capital of Armenia, and in the final he managed to fight off the roar of the packed stands that supported the local boxer, Agvan Aleksijan. In vain, with a great left hook combined with an incredibly precise and accurate right direct, the Armenian was not helped by the mild bias of the judges. He lost with 3:1.
- If we exclude that roar, the noise from the stands, I found the final match to be one of the easiest in the championship from a sporting point of view. The most difficult for me was the semi-final against the Russian Ramazan Magomedkanov, but I got to know him very well during the preparations in Moscow. We trained there under the supervision of national team coach Sergej Kudravshjov, and I even sparred with Magomedkanov twice. At the same time, I was careful not to give up, and the coach is an excellent expert on the Russian school, and I was tactically prepared. After all, I knew I could beat anyone - the European champion in boxing in the category up to 80 kilograms told "Vijesti".
He thanked for the welcome at the airport in Podgorica to the organization of the Bosker Association, but also to his fellow citizens who gave him an incredible celebration!
Šarčević crowned his incredible talent with silver at the first major competition - the European Junior Championship in Georgia, when he was unfairly denied a gold medal by the referee's decision in the final, even though he surpassed his rival from Russia.
The very next year, last year in his first youth year, he won the European bronze, and now in an equal fight with his peers, he has shown that he is the best in Europe.
- It was not easy, but I prepared excellently at the club, Bijelo Polje, with coach Kovačević, and I raised my form to the maximum in Moscow, where all the best boxers from Europe were at the training sessions. Even the fact that Magomedkanov had boxed 150 times, and I had only 30, did not prove to be a handicap, because almost all of my matches were international. Apart from the Russians, the match against the dark-skinned German Steven Učena Ndoka was also difficult for me, but I managed to adapt. I came in ready and full of confidence and I demonstrated that in all the fights. After all, this competition was the most significant at my age in this calendar year and now we're moving on, because from the next one I'm moving to seniors - concluded Šarčević.
On his way to the final in Yerevan, the boxer from Bijelo Polje eliminated the Croatian Luigi Šalov, the German Ndouka, the Russian Magomedkanov in the semi-finals, and the local hope Alekseev in the final.
