Montenegrin chess player Predrag Nikač defeated Ukrainian Vladislav Kolpakov and with his sixth victory, he took second place in the World Singles Championship for people without and with visual impairments in Rhodes.
Nikač, who is defending the trophy won four years ago in Cagliari, also defeated Marjan Štimec from Slovenia, Serik Maklušov from Kazakhstan, the Spaniard Oskar Saez Gabikagogeasco, Kuralbai Đakašov from Uzbekistan and Jacek Stašančik from Poland.
His only defeat was against the first seed, the Polish grandmaster Marcin Tazbir.
In the seventh round, Nikač led the white pieces and celebrated after 40 moves, in a game in which the Sicilian defense was played. The flag fell to Kolpakov in a lost position.
Nikač kept pace with the leader Marcin Tazbir, who has 6,5 points.
80 chess players are fighting for a medal in Rhodes.
The tournament is played according to the Swiss system of nine rounds and 40 moves in two hours per player, plus an hour until the end of the game.
