Slovakian skier Petra Vlhova (28) ended her season due to a serious knee injury she suffered in a fall in the first run of today's giant slalom at her home ski resort in Jasna.
Vlhova was taken straight from the track to the hospital, where it was determined that she had torn the anterior cruciate ligament of her right knee.
"Petra is still under the influence of medication, but is already looking ahead to the next season. She is fully aware that she is neither the first nor the last to experience such an injury. The whole team is focused on the next season," said the Slovakian skier's coach, Mauro Pini, as reported by HINA.
Three seasons ago, Vlhova won the big Crystal Globe intended for the winner of the World Cup, she is the current Olympic champion in slalom, and she was in excellent shape this season as well.
She achieved three victories in the slalom and is currently second in the overall standings of the World Cup with 802 points, 307 less than the first-placed American Mikaela Shifrin.
Šifrin was second today, and the victory was won by Sweden's Sara Hektor, who was one second and 52 hundredths ahead of the American.
