The women's volleyball team of Montenegro opened the Silver League tournament in Portugal with a victory - Milorad Krunić's selection defeated Iceland 3:1 last night (25:14, 27:25, 20:25, 25:18) and took another step towards reaching the finals .
Montenegro recorded its third victory, after defeating the Faroe Islands and Georgia before Iceland. And tonight (22) Montenegro will have a match against the hosts of the second tournament - Portugal.
"We achieved the first of two goals in Portugal. After a great first set, fatigue started to set in and injuries began to appear. We were in trouble for a good part of the match - lost the third set, opened the fourth badly. In the moments when we saw that the fourth set slowly slipping out of Iceland's hands, we started to play, woke up completely, started to serve well and react well on the court," said coach Milorad Krunić after the match.
Montenegro is also going for a triumph against Portugal.
"We will be tired against Portugal, and we will dedicate ourselves to good preparation and rest. We are going to attack Portugal, to give the last atom of strength and qualify for the finals," said coach Krunic.
Montenegro started the match against Iceland well and took a 1:0 lead in sets. In the second, there was an answer from the rival, but in the end, our selection also resolved that part of the game in their favor, so that the third set belonged to Iceland. Iceland opened the fourth set better, leading 4:0, and had a six-point advantage (9:3), but then Montenegro tied six points, equalized (9:9), from that moment on controlled the events on the field and reached the victory .
"A very difficult match. We started well, the first set was at a serious level, while we cannot be satisfied with the other three. But the most important thing is that we won. We have to recover as soon as possible and focus on Portugal. the most important match - I hope that we will present ourselves in the best light and that we will win," said Saška Đurović.
After the tournament in Portugal, Montenegro returns to Podgorica. The third tournament was originally planned to be played in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the domestic selection canceled participation, so all matches with Bosnia and Herzegovina will be registered with an official result (3:0) in favor of the opponent.
On the fourth weekend, according to the schedule, our volleyball players are free, as well as the national teams of Portugal, Hungary, Latvia, Georgia, Iceland and Luxembourg.
"An important victory at the beginning of the tournament in Portugal. We opened the game well, and then our concentration dropped. The most important thing is that we won. We will try to prepare as well as possible for the match against Portugal. We hope to win," said Mina Dragović.
The two best teams after four tournaments will advance to the finals, which will be played on June 13 and 16.
