Montenegrin karate, like many of our sports, has not lost its qualitative step with the best world teams, the last world and European championships have shown that, and the proof is also the World Youth Premier League in Poreč.
In the competition of 3.679 competitors from 74 countries of the world, our teams lower the medals, and the performance is already historic, although today the League ends with competition, and in the age group of 12 to 14 years.
The biggest result is certainly that of the seniors, and that's where the super talented Nemanja Mikulić shined - gold in the 84 kg category. He was left without a medal at the European Championships in Zadar due to bad refereeing, even though he is in his first year as a senior.
In May, he "destroyed" the biggest fighters at the biggest competition of the Old Continent in Zadar, and in Poreč and the world, respectively - Ashraf Bazina (Egypt) 5:4, Nikolas Genials (Cyprus) 8:0, Galim Ashikhan (Kazakhstan) 8:1, Vitomir Trajkovski (North Macedonia) 6:0, Adriano Salvati (Italy) 5:1, and in the final the Ukrainian Maksima Buhajova 3:0.
96 karatekas fought in his category!
And Montenegro develops top-class cards in all its regions, so Iskra from Danilovgrad made a unique feat - medals in fights and katas.
Balša Vojinović was bronze in the younger seniors up to 60 kilograms and Vuk Vučinić earned a medal of the same brilliance up to 70 kilograms. Katarina Vlahović was also third, but in the cadet category.
That the coaches Slađan Mikulić (KK Bijela) and Nenad Vojinović (KK Iskra) are not only doing well is shown by the bronze medal of Lazar Potpara in the junior heavyweight category, who trains in Nikšić's Fokus with Dejan Ivanović.
The Podgorica youth forgot what it's like to come back without a medal, and junior Jovana Damjanović contributed to the great streak of Žarko Raković with a bronze in the heavy category.
The youngster shone on the first day of the competition in the World Premier League, as their karate fighters under the age of 12 were fantastic - three gold and one silver medals.
Gold medals were won by Jakša Marinović (up to 40 kg), Sofija Jovanović (over 40 kg) and Vuk Dragojević (over 45 kg). In the Montenegrin final, Dragojević defeated clubmate Filip Ilinčić, who earned the silver.
