The women's senior volleyball team of Montenegro gathered today in Bijelo Polje and started preparations ahead of the qualifications for the European Championship, which will be held in the Czech Republic, Turkey, Sweden and Azerbaijan in 2026.
The first qualifying match for EuroVolley 2026. Montenegro will play Latvia away on August 17, and eight days later, on August 25, in Bijelo Polje, they will welcome Bosnia and Herzegovina. In August 2025, Milorad Krunić's team will play matches with the same rivals - at home against Latvia and away from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Placement to the championship will be won by the winners of the groups and the five best second-placed selections.
"We rested after the Silver League, which, I hope, will help us a lot in this qualification cycle. We have the right opponents. We are full of confidence that this time we will reach the goal, that is, placement at the European Championship," said coach Krunic.
Dijana Vuković, Katarina Budrak and Tijana Tvrdišić are again among the 13 players available to coach Milorad Krunić, as well as several very young girls who got a chance in the Silver League matches.
Unfortunately, Nikoleta Perović and Gordana Madžgalj will not be available to the coach. During her last playing engagement in the USA, Perović had an injury that required medical treatment, time for rehabilitation and a special training process, in order to fully recover and return to full form, while Madžgalj informed the coach that she was unable to attend the training.
The team will be completed after the end of the U20 Balkan Championship, during the next week, when Ksenija Krunić and Darja Popović are expected to join the team.
"Good preparations await us, we will have several friendly matches. After that, we have qualifying matches against Latvia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am glad that all the girls came healthy and ready. We will do our best to take a step towards qualifying for the European Championship," she said. captain Melisa Cenović.
During the preparations, our seniors will play test matches with the Austrian national team on August 11 and 12.
Assistant coaches Mladen Miladinović and Luka Bogojević, conditioning coach Vladimir Ognjanović, statistician Dunja Simojlović and physiotherapist Nikola Vojinović will assist coach Krunić in his work.
President Nikola Kažić and general secretary Ivan Bošković greeted those present at the gathering in front of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG).
