President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović awarded table tennis player Filip Radović with the Order of the Montenegrin Flag of the third degree, for the bronze medal he won at the Paralympic Games, his cabinet announced.
Milatović hosted a reception at the residence in Cetinje for members of the Montenegrin Paralympic team - Filip Radović, Maja Rajković and Milan Đinović, who represented Montenegro at the Paralympic Games in Paris. The meeting was also attended by the president of the Paralympic Committee, Igor Tomić.
Radović is the first athlete in individual competition to receive this award.
"While handing out the award, President Milatović pointed out that by winning another Paralympic medal, Radović wrote a new page in the history of Montenegrin sports and that with his extraordinary performance he made his family, Montenegro and all of us proud," the announcement reads.
He reminded that Radović's medal placed Montenegro among the 80 medal winning countries at this year's Paralympic Games, stating that it was an exceptional success.
Milatović congratulated all the athletes on the great representation of Montenegro in Paris and emphasized that just participating in the Paralympic Games is a great success, but also an incentive for further commitment and career advancement.
He said that it is now up to the decision-makers to provide stronger support to athletes and improve the sports infrastructure, so that they can continue training, improving and achieving top results in future competitions in their country.
Radović said that the award given to him was an honor, but also an obligation to continue achieving excellent results.
As stated in the announcement, the athletes thanked President Milatović for the reception and the honor shown, stating that they will continue to proudly defend the colors of Montenegro in the future. "The Order of the Montenegrin Flag of the third degree is awarded for special services to Montenegro, and Radović, as one of the most trophy-winning athletes in the country, has become a symbol of Montenegrin sports," reads a statement from Milatović's office.
