Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Sergio Perez were not penalized for the incident on the penultimate lap of yesterday's Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
Sainz and Peres collided coming out of turn two in the battle for third place.
"Sainz and Peres had contact and collided shortly after exiting turn two. This is a situation where a small touch had significant consequences. The stewards reviewed how the incident occurred, not the consequences," the stewards' statement said. Sky reported.
"As the two cars approached the right-hand wall on the exit of turn two, they were about a meter apart. From that moment and throughout the incident, neither driver steered incorrectly, both kept their steering wheels in neutral. The stewards checked the racing line of the drivers from previous laps. Sainz was on or near the racing line, at a slight angle from the right wall. From the exit to the point of contact, he moved about one car width away from the wall, and Peres about half a width away from the same wall."
The stewards stated that it was apparent that Sainz, while in front and entitled to drive on his racing line, moved slightly as a car of which he had limited visibility.
"At the same time, there was nothing unusual about Perez's line, but he could have done more to avoid the car if he had had a better view. The stewards consider this to be a racing incident in which neither driver was primarily at fault and will take no further action." , the announcement states.
Sainz and Peres did not finish the race, and thanks to the incident, third place was taken by George Russell from Mercedes.
Oscar Piastri of McLaren won, ahead of Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.
