Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan said that he would definitely retire if in snooker, following the example of the darts competition, they introduce players to matches with music and added that he does not see why the World Championship should not be moved from the Crucible Theater to Sheffield to China or Saudi Arabia.
O'Sulliven, who has not won a trophy this season, said last month that he "doesn't have much left" after what he deemed an embarrassing loss to Heo Guogyan in the fourth round of the British Open, Sky reported.
In an interview with Talk Sport, O'Sullivan was asked if snooker needed to catch up with how darts competitions are organized in order to attract a younger audience.
"I wouldn't agree. I would definitely withdraw. I would say, 'You know what? I'm leaving now,'" he said.
One of the greatest players of all time has admitted that snooker is struggling to attract a younger audience in the UK, while the sport's popularity is growing in China and Saudi Arabia.
"In the UK you have an older audience, but in China and Saudi Arabia snooker is watched by a very young audience, I don't know why. It's always been like that, older people in the UK like snooker, I don't know why," he said.
"When you watch snooker and on the other side there are football, tennis and golf, when you are a parent you think: 'Why would my child do that'. I guess snooker will fall to the bottom of the list," added the 48-year-old snooker player.
He said that he wants to play in China and Saudi Arabia and that he would like to spend more time there at tournaments and exhibitions.
"Any excuse would take me there. I spend as much time there as I can," O'Sulliven added.
He repeated that he would support the idea of moving the World Cup from the Krusible Theater, where the hall has a capacity of 980 seats. The most prestigious tournament has been held in Sheffield since 1977, and the contract with the host expires in 2027.
"He can move, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't happen. I'm a snooker player, and as a player, you like to see someone take care of you when you're at tournaments. We played a few tournaments in China and in Saudi Arabia and the players liked it. "The Crucible is a great place, it's been fantastic over the years. Wherever they move the World Cup, I'm sure they'll do a good job," said O'Sulliven.
