"Millennium Run", which will be held in Podgorica this weekend, will gather more than 2.700 participants from as many as 37 countries around the world.
This was announced at today's press conference by Igor Majer, race organizer and founder of the "Mayer" Multisport Academy.
He said that this is a record number of competitors, and that this is just a confirmation that they are on the right track when it comes to the organization of this sports event.
"For the first time this year, we are opening specific markets. Our focus was on Italy and France, and from those countries we expect several key runners who will help us attract an even larger number of participants next year. It is interesting that we always have competitors from all continents , so this year we also have recreational athletes from the Ivory Coast, then competitors from the Republic of South Africa, South America. Czech Republic...", announced Mayer.
He added that in the next four years they will be particularly dedicated to strengthening the image of the "Millennium Run".
"Podgorica, unfortunately, had neither the image nor the brand of quality, mass, good manifestations. We are slowly putting that in place over the past three years, and our goal is to stand at least side by side with the marathons that are organized in the main cities in the region. We are talking specifically about Skopje, Zagreb, Tirana...", said Majer.
He points out that this year's race also has an ecological note thanks to the cooperation with the "Green Wave" Initiative, and that he is particularly pleased that a large number of young people are involved in the organization of the entire event.
These, he says, are good indicators that the "Podgorica Millennium Run" has a wider social impact besides sports.
Igor Vujačić, Acting Secretary for Sports of the Capital City, confirms that the upcoming event is a real sports holiday.
"Multisport academy "Mayer" in a short time managed to set high standards in the organization of such events. Podgorica has become a city where people come and go satisfied, which supports the fact that this is not only a sports event, but also a kind of tourism promotion" , Vujacic said.
He reminded that in cooperation with the Police Administration and the Municipal Police, all measures were taken so that the race would be secured in a high-quality manner. He also called on all road users for understanding and patience.
"I appeal to them to respect the signage and to use alternative routes during the race that are highlighted on social networks and on the website of the Capital City, the Podgorica Run event and the Auto-moto Association of Montenegro," said Vujačić.
The significance of the "Podgorica Millennium Run" was recognized by numerous large companies this year as well.
"Podgorica Millennium Run" will be held on November 9 and 10. It is the running event of the year in the Capital City, and running enthusiasts, recreational athletes and elite runners will try their hand at distances of 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 21,1 kilometers and a marathon race of 42,2 kilometers.
