The kick-boxing team of Montenegro finished their performance at the senior European championship in Athens with two bronze medals.
Nemanja Čađenović was defeated by Lazar Stupar from Serbia in the semi-finals of the low-kick discipline, category up to 71 kilograms, in one of the best matches of the championship. Čađenović previously defeated the Greek Jorgos Maros, while he was free in the first round.
Lazar Klikovac won bronze in the K1 discipline, up to 81 kg. Klikovac defeated Nikita Tataru from Moldova in the quarterfinals, while he was stopped by Nikola Todorović from Serbia in the semifinals.
Earlier, Viktor Borozan (low-kick, -67 kg) and Nemanja Mandić (low-kick, -75 kg) ended their performance without a medal.
Selector Goran Radonjić says that an excellent result was achieved.
"Two bronze medals at the European Championship is a great success. Unfortunately, the draw sent our competitors in the semi-finals to probably the best fighters in the entire tournament. This is the crown of another successful year in which we had excellent results, and it was Čađenović and Klikovac who were the best, so these medals are confirmation of good work and continuity. Borozan and Mandić participated for the first time in a major competition, and they showed their potential. I think this is a talented generation from whom we can expect great things in the future as well."
About a thousand competitors from 41 countries registered for the European Championship in Athens.
