Today, the fourth round of the European Individual Chess Championship was played in Petrovac.
Grandmaster and current champion of Montenegro, Nikita Petrov, continued with great games. In the fourth round, Petrov defeated the representative of Poland, Jakub Kosakovski, with white pieces and achieved his third victory, so with 3,5 points he is in the division from third to 20th place.
Petrov played the opening game brilliantly, and routinely realized the gained advantage. His form promises great games down the stretch.
Denis Kadrić suffered a defeat against the first seed of the tournament, Vladmir Fedosejev, and it seems that our leaderboard could have chosen some better continuations and provided the black pieces with a favorable result.
Nikola Đukić is still undefeated, and today he registered his third draw against the young representative of Armenia, Erik Gasparjan.
Our youngest representative Ilija Milović should also be praised, who after yesterday's draw in today's round defeated fide master Čaba Bognar from Hungary, so he currently has 1,5 points.
Dušan Lekić and Veljko Šćekić scored victories today, while Andrej Šuković, Vladimir Vujošević, Slavko Petrović and Zlatko Vukazić recorded draws.
The fourth round brought extremely interesting duels on the leaderboards as well, after which the German grandmaster Frederik Svane and the grandmaster Maksim Chigaev, who plays for the Spanish team, can be the most satisfied. The fifth round brings their mutual duel, followed by a large group of players with 3,5 points.
It is also worth highlighting the great feat of grandmaster Nikola Sedlak from Subotica who defeated, according to him, one of his role models, Vasilij Ivančuk, in the fourth round in an extremely interesting game. The favorites showed a variable game
Only four rounds have been played, and there will be great excitement and eight more days of great battles, after which we will find out which 20 chess players will qualify for the World Cup and how the prize fund in the amount of 100.000 euros will be distributed.
