The fifth round of the European Individual Chess Championship brought a poor performance of the Montenegrin chess players, and Blaž Kalezić's victory stands out from the positive news.
The current champion of Montenegro, grandmaster Nikita Petrov, after a great fight, was defeated by Ivan Čeparinov from Bulgaria.
Čeparinov, the former runner-up to world champion Veselin Topalov, took advantage of the indiscretions of our representative and celebrated after a great fight in the women's final, in one of the longest games of the day.
Nikola Đukić is still undefeated, but he recorded his fourth draw, this time in a duel with the young Boro Jarar, a representative of Turkey. A checker defense was played, and Đukić was unable to break through the rampart of the young Turkish chess player, so the game ended in a draw after moving to an even end.
Denis Kadric suffered his second consecutive loss after losing to Široghlan Talibov from Azerbaijan with white pieces. Kadrić played risky, went on the attack, but the representative of Azerbaijan found a counterplay and got the full point.
Blažo Kalezić continued with good games, so with another victory he joined the group of players with three points. Kalezić outplayed Jigit Karača from Turkey with white pieces and in his distinctive style achieved his third victory in this championship.
Among the other results, the victories of Andrej Šuković, Vladimir Vujošević, Veljko Šćekić, Nikolina Koljević, Slaven Živković and Vlad Vukasojević stand out, while draws were recorded by Peko Đurović, Dušan Lekić and Zoran Lakušić.
At the head of the table is a group of four players in which, the aforementioned Čeparinov, the leader and the only maximum after four rounds, Maksim Čigaev and Frederik Svene, and the Serbian representative Aleksandar Inđić, who defeated Felix Blohberger from Austria in a dull attack. The leading four are followed by a group of thirty players with four points.
Tomorrow is the sixth of the planned eleven rounds, followed by a day off. It seems that a real spectacle is ahead.
