Serbian national team player and grandmaster Aleksandar Inđić became the new European chess champion - he drew with Daniel Dard in the last round of the championship held in Petrovac and thus won the European gold.
One of the greatest successes in Serbian chess was achieved by Indjić, who achieved seven victories and four draws.
The winner of European gold did not hide his enthusiasm for his great success.
"I am very satisfied with my game and winning this prestigious title. I am really grateful to all my fans, and I especially want to congratulate the people from the Chess Federation of Montenegro, who first organized the tournament brilliantly, and then were a great support and showed that we are sincere friends." Indjic said.
The aforementioned Darda finished in second place, while the third place went to Frederik Svane from Germany, who had the best additional criteria in the group of players with eight points.
The competition was ceremoniously closed by the Minister of Transport in the Government of Montenegro, Maja Vukićević, who expressed her satisfaction for holding such an event, but sent her congratulations to the Chess Federation of Montenegro, stressing that ŠSCG deserves even more support. Vukićević sent special congratulations to Inđić, wishing that one of the next champions would be from Montenegro.
In addition to her, the guests were addressed at the closing by Veselin Drašković, vice-president of ŠSCG and honorary vice-president of the European Chess Union, and Alojzije Janković, Croatian grandmaster and vice-president of the European Chess Union.
As for the performance of our players, the best placed was Nikita Petrov who finished the tournament in 39th place with seven points. By winning the last round, Nikola Đukić reached 6,5 points, while the leaderboard of our national team, Aleksandar Žerebecov, finished the tournament with six points, while Blažo Kalezić, Peko Đurović and Dušan Lekić had a half score of 5,5 points.
The European individual chess championship in Petrovac gathered almost 400 players from 42 European countries, and the organizer was the Chess Federation of Montenegro in cooperation with the European Chess Union, under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
