The international table tennis tournament, "Memorial Saša Milačić - Podgorica Open" for younger categories, will be played tomorrow, and will bring together more than 90 table tennis players from Montenegro and the region, it was announced by the Podgorica table tennis club Budućnost.
The tournament will be played at the university's Sports and Cultural Center, on 12 tables, in memory of the long-time table tennis worker. It will start at 11 am, with the opening ceremony scheduled for XNUMX am.
It will be officially declared open by Deputy Mayor Nađa Ljiljanić.
Table tennis players from Buducnost, Spin, Lovcen, Budim, Jedinstvo, Novi, Gorštak, Valdanos and Kotor, as well as players from the Priping club from Pristina and Gjakondi from Tirana, have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
The organizer of the second memorial is STK Budućnost, with the support of the Secretariat for Sports of the Capital City, as well as the technical support of the Table Tennis Federation of Montenegro.
Milačić was a long-time first team player, director and president of Budućnost. He was also an international referee, a member of the presidency of the Table Tennis Federation of the SFR Yugoslavia and the president of the Table Tennis Federation of Montenegro.
"For his contribution to the development of table tennis as a meritorious sports worker, he was awarded the title of honorary member of the Balkan Table Tennis Union," announced STK Budućnost.
Milačić died from the effects of Covid-19 in mid-January 2021.
The capital posthumously awarded him a Golden Plaque for his contribution to the development of sports in Titograd and Podgorica.
Milacic will be remembered as the president of the Table Tennis Association, who raised the issue of independence in the World Table Tennis Union during the 1990s.
