The third round of the World Youth Chess Championship, held in Petrovac, brought great excitement and good play by Montenegrin players.
Đorđe Anđelić and Dimitrije Vujović particularly stood out, recording victories against much higher-rated opponents.
Andjelic, a multiple Montenegrin cadet champion, led the black pieces against George Samir David, a FIDE master from Egypt. With patient play, Andjelic maintained parity, then took advantage of a gross oversight by his opponent, and with routine play, turned the advantage he gained into a full point.
After three rounds, Anđelić has two points, the same as Dimitrije Vujović, who defeated Vladimir Bohnička in great style. Vujović brilliantly handled an extremely tough position in the complications and celebrated with an effective checkmate attack, defeating the international master from Slovakia.
The first victories in the tournament were recorded by Ilija Milović and Đorđe Žižić, who celebrated in duels with Mohamed Yusuf Al Ali and Jegor Ševcov, respectively. In addition to Žižić, victories in Montenegrin derbies were recorded by Vasilije Radulović and Luka Jovanović, who defeated Koča and Relja Radović, respectively.
In the girls' competition, Ines Đenđinović recorded her second consecutive draw. In an interesting match with Albania's Šuća Klean, the current champion of Montenegro lost her lead and had to settle for a draw after a hard-fought match. Katarina Đukić also recorded her first draw, after five hours of play, managing to draw with Denmark's Anna Sophie Lee.
Tomorrow, the fourth round is scheduled to begin at 15 p.m., and 11 rounds are planned to be played according to the Swiss system.
The championship is attended by 256 chess players from almost 70 countries around the world, making this year's edition a record.
