The Montenegrin national football team will compete in the prestigious Nations Cup tournament in Berlin from tomorrow to Sunday, which will bring together the world's best teams in both competitions.
The men's competition will feature 16 teams, divided into four groups.
Montenegro will play in Group C, which also includes Brazil, Germany and Poland.
The rivals in Group A will be Ukraine, Israel, South Korea and Denmark, Group B consists of the United States of America (USA), Great Britain, Sweden and Spain, while the draw for Group D includes Japan, Finland, Portugal and Australia.
The two best teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
Ten teams will compete in the women's tournament. Group A will feature the USA, Finland, Germany, Spain and Turkey, while Group B will feature Israel, Hungary, South Korea, Great Britain and Poland.
Montenegro will start the tournament with a match against Brazil tomorrow at 11:15 am.
A match against Poland is scheduled for tomorrow (17,45:11,15 p.m.), while they will meet Germany on Saturday (XNUMX:XNUMX a.m.).
Captain Marko Nikolić said that the Nations Cup is one of the highest quality tournaments, certainly the strongest if the European and World Championships and the Paralympic Games are not counted.
According to him, the best confirmation of this is the names of the participating countries, the superpowers of world football.
"We were unlucky in the draw, we ended up in the strongest group. Brazil is certainly one of the best teams in the world, bronze medalists from Paris. Poland has a promising selection, the best young team in the world," said Nikolić.
He emphasized that the Montenegrin team wants to outperform itself and try to reach the quarterfinals.
"Brazil is definitely the favorite, but we will look for our chance. We know how hard we work and how valuable we are, we want to repeat the game from last year's tournament, when we beat them," said Nikolić.
Commenting on the chances of the Montenegrin national team, he pointed out that the path to the quarterfinals leads through Germany and Poland.
"Germany has been among the best in Europe for years, but has stagnated recently. They have quality and experience and can play at a high level. The Poles are on the rise, they are working hard and in the coming years they will be among the strongest in Europe. It will not be easy, but we want the quarter-finals," said Nikolić.
Montenegrin goalball in Berlin will be represented by Marko and Nikola Nikolić, Miloš Ranitović, Goran Macanović and Velizar Obradović, and will be led by coach Nikola Čurović and his assistant Branislav Bulatović.
The delegation also includes team manager Milo Kastratović.
The performance of the Montenegrin national team in Berlin is financed under the 2025 Paralympic Committee program, which was supported by the Ministry of Sports and Youth of Montenegro.
