The Montenegrin national football team failed to advance to the quarterfinals of the Nations Cup in Berlin.
Montenegrin goalies were defeated by Germany 6:3 in the third round of Group C and, thanks to the weakest goal difference, failed to advance to the knockout stage.
They finished the group stage with one win and two losses - they defeated Poland 14:13, and a convincing 11:1 defeat to Brazil at the start of the tournament cost them a place in the top eight.
Poland and Germany also have the same effect after three rounds.
Brazil, as the first-place team, with maximum performance, reached the quarterfinals, where it was joined by Germany, which had the best score in the triangle.
In the duel with Germany, Nikola Nikolić scored twice, while Miloš Ranitović scored once.
"In the end, we didn't manage to get through the group due to goal difference. We really didn't deserve it, there were a lot of shortcomings, especially in attack. All things considered, I'm satisfied because the goal ahead of the Nations Cup was to raise the level of play compared to the Champions League tournament in Podgorica," coach Nikola Čurović told the MINA agency.
He said that the performances in Berlin must be analyzed, stating that many shortcomings in the game were revealed.
"The level of form was not at the level where we could have expected a better result. We have two quality tournaments ahead, the goal is to improve our form so that we can be at our peak at the European A Division Championship in Finland. We will have to be much better if we want to achieve our goals at that championship," said Čurović.
The Nations Cup traditionally brings together the best national teams in the world, and the Montenegrin team is preparing for the main event of this year - the European Championship A Division in Finland.
