Alexander Ovechkin, the "Russian sniper", finished the regular season of the NHL last night, in which his Washington team lost to the Penguins in Pittsburgh - 5:2.
However, the Washington captain managed to join the scorers and break his personal and world record - 897 goals in the strongest hockey league in the world.
Earlier this month, Ovechkin broke what seemed to be an eternal record held by the best hockey player in history, Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who finished his career with 894 goals in the regular season of the league.
Ovechkin is in his 20th season in the NHL, just like Pittsburgh forward and his great rival Sidney Crosby (scored two goals last night), who, along with another veteran, Evgeni Malkin (19th season), organized the honors for the Washington captain.
They presented the new record holder with a watch. Despite his age, Ovechkin is still competitive and has scored 44 goals this season.
His support in the record match was precisely Gretzky, who, to everyone's surprise, wildly celebrated the "fall" of his record.
The NHL's top scorer this season was a Russian, Nikita Kucherov from Tampa.
