Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said he has no doubt that Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton still has the magic to perform at a high level in the Formula 1 championship, despite a difficult start for the famous Italian team.
Hamilton moved to Ferrari this year after 12 years at Mercedes and after six races he is better than his teammate Charles Leclerc.
The seven-time world champion was slightly better in the last race in Miami, taking third place in the sprint and eighth in the race, one behind Leclerc.
The record holder for the number of wins (105) and pole positions (104) recently said that he is still getting used to the Ferrari car and that this year will be painful.
"I think we saw that magic in the sprint in Shanghai. He completely dominated that race. It's not like you have magic in one race and then suddenly lose it in the next. I firmly believe that the magic is still there. If he puts everything together that contributes to the performance and feels that he is in the right place and that the car is to his taste, he will be great. I have no doubt," Wolff said.
Hamilton is 12 points behind Leclerc ahead of the upcoming race in Imola, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
"I'm also not surprised that he has these obstacles. He was with us for 12 years - that's one way of working. He was put in Ferrari, where his teammate has been for a long time. And his teammate is very good. From the outside and talking to him, that's the path that every new driver has to go through in a top team," Wolff said.
The Formula 1 championship continues next weekend in Imola, with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix taking place on Sunday at 15 p.m.
